Social class is a definition used to explain how we divide people into different categories based on what economic or social status they have. The social classes draw the line between economics, education, social contact network, and their power.
The social class you belong to affects your living and the decisions you get to make. The term reminds us of the inequality around individuals and groups. It explains the strength and benefits professions, salary status and education can bring. Does everyone have the same conditions or are we threatened by social injustices?
If we take a look at today's situation, it can easily be said that Sweden needs to work on the issue of integration and encourage integration.
The million programme has until today left its impact. Ethnic and socioeconomic housing segregation is a huge problem.
I also think there are problems mainly in immigrant-dense areas that must be solved. The uneven resource distribution takes its expression when it comes to poorer services, pharmacies, the children's results in school are more alarming. A common issue is schools can be homogeneous, "we & them". Lack of school integration reflects housing segregation and it creates different socialization patterns.
There is a clear trend in the housing market that people want to "move up" to attractive areas. The consequences from the million program has become a terminus for low-resource households. Which means that the social problems increase/remain.
There is a large geographical division between tenancies and property rights. With a weak foothold in the labor market, social and cultural reasons will become more important when choosing where to settle. So can we assure that everyone has the same conditions to reach the society and integration we are seeking for?
